Mother’s Day in Ruidoso

mother's dayMaking Mom Feel Special on Mother’s Day

C’mon, admit it. We all are a little clueless sometimes when it comes to Mother’s Day. What can you get the woman who’s sacrificed her time, her body, her very sanity to ensure you’ve been raised right? What can possibly equal all the things she’s done for you? Fear not. Here are some things you can do that are right down the road and possibly right up her alley.

Spa Treatments:

Who doesn’t like a relaxing day at the spa. Well, some people, maybe. But it’s a safe bet your mom would love a day of pampering. The Ruidoso area is filled to the brim with spas, offering everything from foot massages to aromatherapy and everything in between. “There’s several treatments we offer,” said Cali Crnkovic, who works at the Lodge Resort and Spa at Cloudcroft. “It goes from a 30-minute foot massage all the way up to longer massages of 90 minutes. There’s hot stone massages and packages with everything.” Since these spas are already located in a mountain resort, some take full advantage of their location, such as Blue Lotus Healing Center with views of the Rio Ruidoso, to Sanctuary on the River near Midtown (the name speaks for itself).

Good Food and Fun:

Mother’s Day is coming right up, but it’s not too late to make a brunch reservation for Mom. The Lodge is also famous for it’s Sunday brunch, and Crnkovic said the place gets filled up fast for the day. “We have several different rooms for brunch seating, so we’re still taking reservations at this point,” Crnkovic said. “There’s usually a lot of reservations.” To make a reservation, for either brunch or a spa treatment, call the Lodge at 575-682-2566.

Of course, Mother’s Day is in the spring, which means a little outdoor excursion might be in order. Try a trip down into the valley to the Hondo Iris Farm and Gallery for a picnic. Alice Seely, designer and owner, said Mother’s Day is the perfect time to see the farm. “That’s when the iris are blooming,” Seely said. “People bring their mothers’ out with the whole family for a picnic, sitting right on the grass and walking through the irises. About 1,000 people show up.” While the weather hasn’t been completely spring like lately, forecasts call for highs of 70s with no rain for the rest of the week – although Seely said she’ll “believe it when I see it.” Even if the weather doesn’t cooperate, the farm features a gift shop, so you can grab something nice for your mom.
